New year’s resolutions are a lot like visiting a psychic, if you’ve ever wandered into one of these red-lit establishments after a particularly eventful happy hour. They usually yield questions of whether or not you’ll finally find that 6 foot plus intellectual with an eight pack, how many pounds you’ll drop or be able to lift by the end of the year, and if you’ll be rolling in the actual dough this year as opposed to just licking it off the spoon from your holiday cookie mixing bowl.
For the book nerd in me, those “voices” in my head are usually audio books – and a lot of them! And as a traveled across the world via planes, trains and automobiles in 2017, I had plenty of time to consume those crucial books that have shaped the knowledge and strategy around my businesses. So – here they are. The very best business books I read in 2017 and how each one did a little something different for me.
When I tell people that I gave up my lovely little one-bedroom apartment in Manhattan to pursue life on the road as a full-time traveler, they immediately assume I’m living out of a suitcase in cramped hotel rooms or bunking with a dozen strangers and cockroaches in backpacking hostels. Think again.
The title of this blog sounds a little bit like something you’d see on the endcap of the “self-help” section of your area Barnes and Noble... gone wrong. But when you’re starting a business and exposing yourself to endless hours of solitude the concepts of entrepreneurship and self-improvement carry blurred boundaries. And for some, life-changing breakthroughs come with 60 nights of nonstop partying. Who knew?!
Regret is a funny thing. So much of our life and the decisions in it are driven by this little idea that one day we might think that this decision or lack of decision was a huge mistake and we’ll feel stupid or sorry for it.
